When we exert the power of our mind over the pattern of our breathing this is called Conscious Breathing. When you use Conscious Breathing you can stretch and endure more easily in yoga asanas, in sports and in times of physical labour. You can also use Conscious Breathing to bring clarity and focus to your mind and to steady your emotions and reduce stress. Conscious Breathing can increase the volume and efficiency of your breathing assisting your vitality, your youthfulness, and the strength of your nervous and immune systems
The Conscious Breathing Workshop with Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher Jan O’Donoghue will show you how you can do this, PLUS
Yoga asanas and breathing exercises to strengthen your abdominal muscles and to stretch and strengthen your intercostal muscles. Both your everyday breathing and your controlled breathing will improve. You will also learn how to use your breath to help reign in a wavering mind and to help you remain serene in times of turbulence.
We will also look at how to establish a Pranayama practice when you are ready. Students already practicing Pranayama can revise and increase their skills. (Pranayama= Conscious Breathing with refinement, regulation, direction and control of the breath for increased life force.)
